the sad reality

Before I rattle about our nation I would like to mention a few quotes of Jinnah

“Yet this is a truth people so easily seem to forget and begin to prize local, sectional or provincial interests above and regardless of the national interests. It naturally pains me to find the curse of provincialism holding sway over any section of Pakistan. Pakistan must be rid of this evil.”

“We are now all Pakistanis--not Baluchis, Pathans, Sindhis, Bengalis, Punjabis and so on--and as Pakistanis we must feet behave and act, and we should be proud to be known as Pakistanis and nothing else. “

Well they may have rung a bell or two in ur mind. Are we actually following the father of the nation , the Quaid, the true leader ? I guess not . When u are being asked about your caste every single day at any place u reach, how can u expect a non nationalistic approach.

Maybe politicians would have better approach towards Jinnah values , But it’s a sad reality that racist politics dominate this country with many nationalistic party in the mix weather it be MQM or ANP . More Over the PML N has no show whatsoever in any other province apart from Punjab and is ironically heading to the next elections as the favorites . As far as PPP is concerned tough they are wide spread around the country all abuses are rattled to Sindhi’s as the perception of them honoring a Sindhi Leader are common.

Its in our mindset when we talk about Pathans we tend to think them as some sort of mental inferiors , For Sindhi we think of them as being corrupt ( only Zardari is tough ) and about Punjabis we blame them for everything happening in the country etc . It’s a sad state of affairs on our behalf when we boast of being one nation even inter racial marriages are unacceptable in most families with perceptions of adversities of getting a different racial “bahu“ being wide spread.

Mothers pay due attention to instill in their sons not to marry a different race and how it will impact their family instead of wondering how this division they are leading to will impact this country. Pakistanis are one of the most hypocritical people in the world, when we keep rattling about how we are one nation and how we don’t do racism it is we who go to the polling booth and vote for ANP MQM SNP etc . It is us who love to hear Pathan Jokes, Blaming Punjabis, Baluchi Abuse, Sindhi Curroption and Muhajir criminal activities. Weather which race u belong to yours is always way superior to the other . We are a nation where even a masi (maid) is hired on the basis of the race they belong to where my own mother has emphasis of one race because she has always found them trustworthy .

When one talks about land reforms we somehow offend Punjabis and Sindhis . When someone talks about putting an end to land grabbing we offend Pathans . When we talk abt putting brakes to target killing we offend Muhajirs etc. We have stereo typed every race in comparision to our own superior values and morals. When we talk about Karo Kari we some how offend Sindhis and Baluchis .

And now all the political parties have triumphed towards the provincial autonomy .  Jinnahs quotes would have been more then satisfactory but it’s a sad state when none of the political parties properly opposed it . Provincial autonomy was in their vested interest where they can exploit racist agendas and ignore the nationalistic approach. A look at the slogan of the largest political party in Pakistan will reflect the racist agenda that they have.  The second most popular party is only in one province. The third is constituted of sold out people with their own political party in turmoil and the fourth and fifth only representing a particular race.

It’s a sad reality and one that we cannot run away from. The next elections will also witness the triumph of these political agendas because the common man either consciously or unconsciously adheres to the racial norms of this society. If many of you wondered why I disrespected Jinnah by not mentioning the word Quaid, I would like to quote Jinnah again

“I have lived as plain Mr. Jinnah and I hope to die as plain Mr. Jinnah. I am very much averse to any title or honours and I will be more than happy if there was no prefix to my name.”

Jinnah is unlike all other racist leaders we have witnessed who would love to be called shaheed e whatever…
